Cybercrime by Alisdair A. Gillespie - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Alisdair A. Gillespie خلاصه: This is not a usual textbook. It does not purport to be the definitive book on the issue of cybercrime, even if such a thing was possible. Cybercrime, as will be seen, is not easy to define and covers a breadth of subjects. A difficulty with trying to write the ‘definitive’ book on cybercrime is something is bound to be missed out. Trying to cover everything also tends to mean that there is a breadth of cover- age but without depth, partly because publishers (not unreasonably) want books to be of an appropriate (readable!) length. What this book does is to highlight some of the key issues of debate that exist in respect of cybercrime, including what cybercrime is. You will find many of the key areas within this book and perhaps a couple that are not always considered. Each topic follows the same format: the behaviour is discussed critically and an analysis is made of whether the law can solve the behaviour and, if so, how. New to this edition is an examination of the investigation of cybercrime. Chapter 12 considers which agencies investigate cybercrime, and how they are structured in order to do so. Chapter 13 considers the powers of the police and other agencies in the context of investigating cybercrime. The requirement on Internet Service Providers to retain so-called ‘communication data’ (broadly speaking, the who, how and why of communications but not its content) is extremely contro- versial. The increasing use of so-called open source intelligence also proves con- troversial, with the police, and others, looking at what is posted on the internet. These new chapters focus on the key issues of debate and are introduced to allow the other chapters to be put into context.
Darwin and Catholicism BY Caruana - Original PDF
Darwin and Catholicism BY Caruana - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Louis Caruana خلاصه: Charles Darwin (1809–82) explained the history and variety of life on earth in terms of evolution. He formulated his ideas for the first time in his book On the Origin of Species, published in 1859. His theory brought together under one explanation the innumerable different phe- nomena observable in the organic world, and suggested moreover that the difference between humans and non-human animals was a difference in degree rather than one of kind.1 Because of this, philosophical and theological debates soon became inevitable. What had been formulated as a new scientific theory quickly developed into a new philosophical and cultural paradigm with repercussions in ethics, anthropology and theology.

Messages, Signs, and Meanings: A Basic Textbook in Semiotics and Communication - Original PDF
Messages, Signs, and Meanings: A Basic Textbook in Semiotics and Communication - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Marcel Danesi خلاصه: This text is designed to provide a basic introduction to semiotics and communication theory, with plenty of examples from, and applications to, popular culture. It aims to make accessible the technical and often abstruse subject matter of sign theory in practical ways, with illustrations in such areas as myth. storytelling, television, advertising, clothing, and architecture. Without overwhelming, this introduction allows students and interested general readers to get a comprehensive look at what semiotics and communication theory are all about. Messages, Signs, and Meanings can be used directly in introductory courses in semiotics, communications, media, or culture studies. Additionally, it can be used in courses dealing with cognate areas of investigation (psychology, mythology, education, literary studies, anthropology, linguistics) as a complementary or supplementary text. The text builds upon what readers already known intuitively about signs and then leads them to think critically about the world in which they live--a world saturated with images of all kinds that a basic knowledge of semiotics can help filter and deconstruct. The text also provides opportunities for readers to do ''hands-on'' semiotics through the exercises and questions for discussion that accompany each chapter. Biographical sketches of the major figures in the field are also included, as is a convenient glossary of technical terms. The overall plan of the book is to illustrate how message-making and meaning-making can be studied from the specific vantage point of the discipline of semiotics. This third edition also includes updated discussions of information technology throughout, focusing especially on howmeanings are now negotiated through such channels as websites. chat rooms, and instant messages.

نویسندگان: Shalaby W. Shalaby, Karen J.L. Burg خلاصه: Egyptians sutured wounds as early as 3500 B.C. using a variety of natural polymers including treated intestines, which are the early versions of collagen-based surgical gut sutures.1 Synthetic, absorbable polyesters based on 2-hydroxyacetic acids were developed for preparing less tissue reactive alternatives to surgical gut sutures in the early 1970s. In addition to collagenbased polymers, other natural, absorbable polymers, such as albumin, chitosan, and hyaluronic acid and derivatives thereof have been used for many pharmaceutical and biomedical applications for several decades.2 Of these polymers, the application of chitosan and hyaluronic acid–based polymers has received a great deal of attention in the past 15 years for use in controlled drug delivery systems, tissue repair, tissue engineering, and controlling certain biological events.

Macromolecules Containing Metal and Metal-Like Elements, Transition Metal-Containing Polymers - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Alaa S. Abd-El-Aziz, Charles E. Carraher, Charles U. Pittman, Martel Zeldin خلاصه: Transition metal-containing macromolecules come in a wide variety of structures. While volume 5 of this series dealt with metal coordination polymers, in this book we focus on transition metal-containing polymers where the metal is bonded to at least one organic group through σ- and/or π-bonds. Many of the macromolecules covered in this volume are often referred to as organometallic polymers. The term organometallic compound refers to compounds that contain at least one metal–carbon (M–C) bond, whether the bond is σ or π or some combination of both types of bonding.

Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Peter A. Williams خلاصه: Natural and synthetic water soluble polymers are used in a wide range of familiar industrial and consumer products, including coatings and inks, papers, adhesives, cosmetics and personal care products. They perform a variety of functions without which these products would be significantly more expensive, less effective or both.Written for research, development and formulation chemists, technologists and engineers at graduate level and beyond in the fine and specialty chemicals, polymers, food and pharmaceutical industries, the Handbook of Industrial Water Soluble Polymers deals specifically with the functional properties of both natural and synthetic water soluble polymers. By taking a function based approach, rather than a "polymer specific" approach the book illustrates how polymer structure leads to effect, and shows how different polymer types can be employed to achieve appropriate product properties.
