The Political Economy of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Bai Gao • Zhihong Zhen خلاصه: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the pilot project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This is China’s first government- to-government project with an aim to comprehensively promote the eco- nomic development of another country along the Silk Road. As China’s first overseas project with large-scale investment, CPEC has presented both the Chinese government and Chinese companies two major chal- lenges: not only must they undertake an adjustment process to situate themselves within the foreign political, economic, cultural, and religious environments, but they must implement CPEC projects via Pakistani insti- tutions and mechanisms which function under operational logics quite different from those at home. Analyzing the Chinese and Pakistani experi- ences during the early stage of CPEC can provide valuable insights that help us understand the political economy of the BRI

The Social City Space as Collaborative Media to Enhance the Value of the City - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Yasuhiro Kawahara • Saburo Saito • Junichi Suzuk خلاصه: Today, as cities worldwide are equipped with networks to implement the IoT, we can communicate seamlessly between the real and virtual worlds. With such an infra- structure, urban development and evaluation methods are entering a new phase. By grasping the ever-changing situation of the city and the behavior of the people in the city, and by building a CPS (Cyber-Physical System), it will be possible to provide the people in the city with the appropriate information in the right place at the right time. This information is created through a cloud system that interfaces with the city to provide customized information to every individual. Therefore, a city that is both functional and attractive to people would be the one that is equipped with software to create and communicate this kind of information in real-time and hardware to make the most of it. To provide a concrete perspective in this book, we discuss this new direction of urban development, emphasizing physical and social communication from the perspective of the people involved in the city. For example, we discuss how we can evaluate the city’s value as the intangible asset value of its attractiveness that people have embraced in their minds through their experiences. Also, we discuss how we can build a system that enhances the city’s value by utilizing communication tools such as IoT technology and social networking services. In this book, we refer to the concept of “The Social City” as a city that uses information and communication technology to promote communication between people and between people and the city in real space to revitalize the city. While elaborating on the conceptual frame- work of “The Social City,” each chapter provides an outlook by introducing specific research cases

Replacing Darwin: The New Origin of Species - Epub + Converted PDF
Replacing Darwin: The New Origin of Species - Epub + Converted PDF
نویسندگان: Nathaniel T Jeanson PhD خلاصه: If Darwin were to examine the evidence today using modern science, would his conclusions be the same? Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, published over 150 years ago, is considered one of history's most influential books and continues to serve as the foundation of thought for evolutionary biology. Since Darwin's time, however, new fields of science have emerged that simply give us better answers to the question of origins. With a Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology from Harvard University, Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson is uniquely qualified to investigate what genetics reveal about origins. The Origins Puzzle Comes Together If the science surrounding origins were a puzzle, Darwin would have had fewer than 15% of the pieces to work with when he developed his theory of evolution. We now have a much greater percentage of the pieces because of modern scientific research. As Dr. Jeanson puts the new pieces together, a whole new picture emerges, giving us a testable, predictive model to explain the origin of species. A New Scientific Revolution Begins So what comes next? Darwin's theory of evolution may be one of science's longest standing, but the latest genetics research is casting doubt on it. Are these new discoveries cause to critically reexamine Darwin's theory? Replacing Darwin asks you to give serious consideration to modern scientific advances and reevaluate the problems that have surfaced in Darwin's theory of evolution."

نویسندگان: Josias Oliveira خلاصه: The question is quite pertinent. Especially when we are starting a new project or we are faced with a situation that needs further study on a certain topic. Perhaps this discussion is more related to a natural tendency that every human being has. When we are faced with a problem, the brain's immediate reaction is to find a solution that is faster and requires the least amount of energy to solve. Nature works this way. As a professional, it is extremely important to solve any UX problem as comprehensively as possible, without trying to find the easiest solution or putting yourself in the user's shoes in a superficial way. What I have learned from nearly 20 years of professional career is that the greater the knowledge on a given topic, the less research I need. And that's not bad, on the contrary. The greater my knowledge of a task, the greater my empathic ability to provide solutions that are appropriate and that make sense to most users. The greater my knowledge of a subject, the greater my ability to sell that product or sell my idea.

نویسندگان: Kristin Kobes Du Mez خلاصه: INTRODUCTION ON A BITTERLY COLD DAY IN JANUARY 2016, Donald Trump stood on the stage of an auditorium at a small Christian college in Iowa. He boasted of his poll numbers and his crowd sizes. He warned of the dangers posed by Muslims and undocumented immigrants, and he talked of building a border wall. He denigrated American politicians as stupid, weak, and pathetic. He claimed that Christianity was “under siege” and urged Christians to band together and assert their power. He promised to lead. He had no doubts about the loyalty of his followers: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters,” he claimed.1 That morning, the Rev. Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Dallas, introduced Trump. As a pastor Jeffress couldn’t endorse a candidate, but he made clear that he wouldn’t be there if he didn’t think Trump “would make a great president.” Jeffress wasn’t alone. Already at that point, before the Iowa caucuses at the beginning of February, 42 percent of white evangelicals supported Trump—more than any other candidate. The reason was simple, Jeffress contended. Evangelicals were “sick and tired of the status quo.” They were looking for the leader who would “reverse the downward death spiral of this nation that we love so dearly.”
