Applying Critical Social Theories to Family Therapy Practice - Original PDF
Applying Critical Social Theories to Family Therapy Practice - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Teresa McDowell (auth.) خلاصه: This volume applies critical social theories to family therapy practice, using sociopolitical context for a clearer focus on the power dynamics of couple and family relationships. Its decolonizing approach to therapy is shown countering the pervasive cultural themes that grant privilege to specific groups over others, feeding unequal and oppressive relationships that bring families and couples to treatment. Therapy is shown here as a layered and nuanced process, with practitioners developing an ethical human rights perspective toward their work as they aid clients in negotiating for greater justice and equity in their relationships. Breaking new ground in family therapy, Applying Critical Social Theories to Family Therapy challenges social workers, social work researchers, therapists and psychologists to push beyond current ideas of social awareness and cultural competence toward truly liberatory client-centered practice.

Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy: Bridging Emotion, Societal Context, and Couple Interaction - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Carmen Knudson-Martin, Melissa A. Wells, Sarah K. Samman (eds.) خلاصه: This book describes a new model for clinical work with couples, Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy (SERT). SERT intervenes in sociocultural processes that interfere with couples experiencing mutually supportive relationships. This approach integrates recent advances in neurobiology with social constructionist understandings of gender, culture, personal identities, and relationship processes. The aim of SERT is to help couples move toward a balanced power dynamic and establish mutuality in the relationship. Transforming power disparities in relationships helps couples move toward a more equal flow of attention and support toward each other.

An Illustrated Guide to Veterinary Medical Terminology Third Edition - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Janet Amundson Romich, DVM, MS خلاصه: An Illustrated Guide to Veterinary Medical Terminology, Third Edition provides a visual approach to learning medical terms and understanding the basics of veterinary medicine. A systematic process of breaking down medical terms into their component parts allows readers to comprehend the root medical concepts and apply critical thinking skills when faced with new and unfamiliar medical terminology. Chapters progress from basic terminology related to anatomical positioning to body systems, and then to species- specific terminology. Case studies exemplify how medical terminology would be experienced in an actual veterinary practice.
Advanced Monitoring and Procedures for Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care - Original PDF
Advanced Monitoring and Procedures for Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Jamie M. Burkitt Creedon, Harold Davis خلاصه: The textbook is organized roughly by organ system or general topic, but there is considerable overlap in some areas. For instance, some authors of device insertion chapters included a maintenance section, and maintenance of that device may also be covered in another chapter specifically on insertion site maintenance or artificial airway maintenance, and so on. Standardized protocols are included for procedures for which they were deemed useful and appropriate. These protocols are based on best-available evidence and guidelines, and where such citations were unavailable or inappropriate, they are based on author experience. We hope these protocols will help raise and equalize the standard of care across our profession, and serve as the backbone for a protocol book to use in your emergency or critical care practice.

Marriage and Family Therapy: A Practice-Oriented Approach - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Linda Metcalf خلاصه: There are many different models of marriage and family therapy; the challenge for students and beginning practitioners is deciding which one best suits their individual purposes. This highly practical volume elucidates the defining characteristics of 14 contemporary models, including their history, views of change, views of family and the role of the therapist; and methods of assessing family dynamics, goal setting; facilitating change; and knowing when to terminate. Each chapter also includes a template for implementing therapy models, and realistic case studies-many drawn from actual practice-to illustrate how each model would address common issues. In addition, the volume includes extensive interviews with master therapists such as Albert Ellis, Insoo Kim Berg, Sue Johnson, Susan McDaniel, Derald Wing Sue, and many others. They share their ideas of the ways in which change occurs, how they set goals, and how they perform therapy. For further clarification, each therapist illustrates how he/she would proceed via the same case study. Learning how to perform effective family therapy can be an arduous process of trial and error, yet this resource will ease the way for students and currently practicing family therapists who need to revisit the basics. نویسندگان: Gill Gorell Barnes خلاصه: The new edition of this well-known text addresses the plurality of family life today, and considers the way in which the changeable "theory of family" has influenced the approaches of those working with families. The emphasis in this second edition is on working in a context of cultural diversity and in which life transitions such as marriage, divorce and bereavement, affect the lives of all families, be they multi- or lone-parent, gay or heterosexual. This is an essential text for therapists and counsellors, both in training and in practice, who work with families.
Family Art Therapy: Foundations of Theory and Practice (Family Therapy and Counseling) - Original PDF
Family Art Therapy: Foundations of Theory and Practice (Family Therapy and Counseling) - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Christine Kerr, Janice Hoshino خلاصه: Family therapy textbooks are plentiful for the beginning family therapist, the educator, and the seasoned clinician. In many textbooks, the vast number of theoretical paradigms, as well as applied clinical vignettes, provide those who are interested in skills advancement with numerous resources. Within the field of traditional family therapy, there are extensive family therapy theories and depth within any one given schema. Various family models of traditional family therapy have evolved and become differentiated since the 1960s, the classification of which continues to undergo change and reevaluation. Classic family therapy theory can and is currently being integrated within art psychotherapy treatment. What is unique to the practice of clinical art psychotherapy is the use of action-oriented art processes that can work in tandem with traditional family therapy verbal dialoguing. Consequently, art interventions have the potential to parallel many of the theoretical paradigms of conventional family therapy. Much like traditional family therapy, fam- ily art therapy does not focus on the individual alone but treats the nuclear family, specific family dyads and often the family intergenerationally. The art therapist and the family therapy practitioner, both of whom work with fami- lies, should have an understanding of the variety of theoretical viewpoints and associative art interventions to interactively and integratively meet the affective and developmental needs of client families. As art therapy educators and authors in this book, we discussed the need for a comprehensive, updated family art therapy text. Noting that Helen Land- garten authored the seminal family art therapy text in 1987, we concluded that a restructured family art therapy text could draw together an overview of classic and postmodern theories with applied art techniques. Other books that have been written on family art therapy after this date have either focused on specific client populations or have integrated limited family therapy theory with the art therapy process.
Play Therapy with Children in Crisis: Individual, Group, and Family Treatment, 3rd edition - Original PDF
Play Therapy with Children in Crisis: Individual, Group, and Family Treatment, 3rd edition - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Nancy Boyd Webb DSW BCD RPT-S, MD Lenore C. Terr خلاصه: Crises and traumatic events are ubiquitous in modern life and affect people of all ages. Contrary to the myth that the magic years of childhood are a period of guileless innocence and carefree play, the reality of the preteen years, like that of later life, includes experiences that provoke anger, jealousy, fear, and grief as well as joy and pleasure. When children experience crises or traumas, their families and communities inevitably also are involved. Sometimes adults actually cause children to be victimized, as in cases of abuse. In other situations (such as natural disasters), no one person is responsible, and the entire affected community must deal together with the shared experience. This revised volume begins with a focus on the family and community envi- ronment in which children live, because of the importance of this social context to the nature of children’s reactions in crises or traumatic situations. We know that children depend on the adults around them for security and protection, and the younger they are, the more this is the case. Furthermore, evidence in the professional literature increasingly attests to the influence of adults’ responses to crises or traumas on the subsequent nature of children’s reactions (Arroyo & Eth, 1996; McFarlane, 1987; Rustemi & Karanei, 1996; Pfefferbaum, 1997; Swenson et al., 1996). Because children watch and take their cues from adults, when their caretakers feel and act terrified, children become even more panicked—since they know that they themselves are helpless and powerless.
