Mechanics and Analysis of Composite Materials - Original PDF
Mechanics and Analysis of Composite Materials - Original PDF
نویسندگان: V.V. Vasiliev, E. Morozov خلاصه: This book is concerned with the topical problems of mechanics of advanced composite materials whose mechanical properties are controlled by high-strength and high-stiffness continuous fibers embedded in polymeric, metal, or ceramic matrix. Although the idea of combining two or more components to produce materials with controlled properties has been known and used from time immemorial, modern composites have been developed only several decades ago and have found by now intensive application in different fields of engineering, particularly, in aerospace structures for which high strength-to-weightand stiffnessto-weight ratios are required.
Quantum thermodynamics: emergence of thermodynamic behavior within composite quantum systems - Original PDF
Quantum thermodynamics: emergence of thermodynamic behavior within composite quantum systems - Original PDF
نویسندگان: J. Gemmer, M. Michel, G. Mahler (auth.) خلاصه: This extended tutorial essay views thermodynamics as an incomplete description of quantum systems with many degrees of freedom. The main goal is to show that the approach to equilibrium - with equilibrium characterized by maximum ignorance about the open system of interest - neither requires that many particles nor is it a precise way of partitioning relevant for the salient features of equilibrium and equilibration. Moreover it is indeed quantum effects that are at work in bringing about universal thermodynamic behaviour of modestly sized open systems. Von Neumann`s concept of entropy thus proves to be much more widely useful than something to be feared, and far beyond truly macroscopic systems in equilibrium.
Rebuilding Communities After Displacement - Original PDF
Rebuilding Communities After Displacement - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Mo Hamza · Dilanthi Amaratunga · Richard Haigh · Chamindi Malalgoda · Chathuranganee Jayakody · Anuradha Senanayake خلاصه: The number of people worldwide forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, disaster risk, and environmental degradation driven by climate change is on the rise. These displacement situations are also becoming more protracted, with many lasting several years or slowly turning to a permanent form of relocation. Forced displacement has become a significant development and humanitarian challenge. There is an urgent need to develop more sustainable and resilient approaches that can better support displaced communities and ensure a long-term prospect for such a population. But the picture is not complete without including the host communities and the kind of support they also need. Forcible displacement often results in resettle in areas that are already facing their own development challenges, which can lead to tensions between the two communities. Sustainable and resilient approaches for rebuilding displaced and host commu- nities go beyond addressing physical needs, including housing, safe drinking water, sanitary facilities, electricity, and transport infrastructure. The displaced have lost assets and livelihoods, and are unable to plan for the future. For some communi- ties, such as those involved with fisheries or agriculture, land or place is both a livelihood and a strong sense of identity. No access to grazing land means indige- nous people are deprived of a livelihood and a loss of local identity. No access to livelihood creates unemployment and fewer economic opportunities. This can lead to marginalisation, poverty, and further far reaching and more severe consequences such as human trafficking when vulnerable populations are exploited. Providing access to previous livelihoods or creating new economic opportunities give displaced people the opportunity for financial independence. This also helps to avoid tensions with host communities, who often view immigrants as a threat to their livelihoods or a drain on local resources

Study on China’s Industrial Competitiveness - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Yanyun Zhao خلاصه: International competitiveness, which rose in the 1980s and became a hot spot in the world in the 1990s, driven by the economic globalization, information technology revolution and the rapid development of high-tech industry, has gradually become an important research field and attracted the attention of all countries in the world. Economic competition, in the final analysis, is industrial competition. The overall economic competitiveness of a country or region is determined by the competitive- ness of its main industries. With the rapid development of economic globalization and the promise of China to accede to WTO, how to deal with the open international market become the concerned issue of corporate, industrial, government, research institution and the public. China has strong competitiveness in the market potential and human resource. But from 1994 to 2006, the international competitiveness of China was ranked in around 28th dues to the weakness of enterprise competitiveness. Industry competitiveness is the biggest bottleneck for China to improve the international competitiveness

Contemporary Strategic Chinese American Business Negotiations and Market Entry - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Steven J. Clarke خلاصه: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) 1975 (the year of the “Rabbit”), Henry Kissinger arrives, the first high-level contact between China and the United States in over 20 years. Rabbits tend to be easygoing, gentle, quiet, elegant, skillful, strong inner compass, and particularly responsible. I arrived in Hong Kong in 1975, a “Rat” industrious, hardworking, ambi- tious, and perfectionist...difficult to work with. My adventure then takes me to Guangzhou and mainland China. Reforms by Deng Xiaoping rise to power in 1978, led to rapid economic growth in Guangzhou due to the city’s proximity to Hong Kong and access to the Pearl River. China continues to expand as a market, sourcing opportunity and as an economic global force. Since 1978, nine American presidents have held office. Four generations of political and business leaders in China have contributed to China’s growt
Agricultural Development in Asia and Africa - Original PDF
Agricultural Development in Asia and Africa - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Jonna P. Estudillo · Yoko Kijima · Tetsushi Sonobe خلاصه: Agriculture plays an important role in an economy. It supplies food, labor, and capital; serves as a domestic market for industrial commodities; and is a source of foreign exchange through exports. Many believe that Asia’s take-off to rapid growth and development was propelled by productive agriculture and a dynamic rural economy. This book explores the multifaceted aspects of agricultural development and rural transformation in Asia and discusses the similarity of the Asian experience with that of contemporary Africa. In this book, Asia means tropical Asia, and Africa means Sub-Saharan Africa. Tropical Asia includes Southeast Asia and South Asia. The most important finding presented in this book is that African agricultural development has evolved following the pathways of Asian agricultural development. The common pathways are borrowed technology from abroad and adaptive research exemplified by modern seeds, fertilizer, and mechanical technologies in rice farming; secured property rights on natural resources; adoption of ICTs; investments in human capital, including training; and launching of the high-value revolution (or high-value agriculture). In both continents, agricultural development started in the crop sector, which had a strong tendency to induce the dynamic development of other sectors in rural areas
Plasticity of Metals and Alloys - Original PDF
Plasticity of Metals and Alloys - Original PDF
نویسندگان: V. V. Pustovalov خلاصه: In this title, the results of observations and investigations of a new phenomenon - changes in the macroscopic characteristics of the plastic deformation of metals and alloys at a superconducting transition - are systematised. In these works it is shown for the first time that the electronic drag of dislocations accompanying low-temperature deformation is effective. The main experimental features of the phenomenon - the dependences of the characteristics of the change in plasticity at a superconducting transition on the stress, deformation, temperature, deformation rate, and concentration of the alloying element in the superconductor - and results indicating a correlation between the characteristics of the effect and the superconducting properties are presented. Experiments clarifying the mechanisms of the phenomenon are analysed. A brief exposition of the theoretical investigations of the electronic drag of dislocations in metals in the normal and superconducting states and the influence of a superconducting transition on the plasticity is given. The theoretical results are compared with the experimental results. Examples of the application of the effect as a new method for investigating the physical mechanisms of low-temperature plastic deformation are presented. The applied aspects of the phenomenon are discussed separately.

High temperature strain of metals and alloys: physical fundamentals - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Valim Levitin خلاصه: Creep and fatigue are the most prevalent causes of rupture in superalloys, which are important materials for industrial usage, e.g. in engines and turbine blades in aerospace or in energy producing industries. As temperature increases, atom mobility becomes appreciable, affecting a number of metal and alloy properties. It is thus vital to find new characterization methods that allow an understanding of the fundamental physics of creep in these materials as well as in pure metals. Here, the author shows how new in situ X-ray investigations and transmission electron microscope studies lead to novel explanations of high-temperature deformation and creep in pure metals, solid solutions and superalloys. This unique approach is the first to find unequivocal and quantitative expressions for the macroscopic deformation rate by means of three groups of parameters: substructural characteristics, physical material constants and external conditions. Creep strength of the studied up-to-date single crystal superalloys is greatly increased over conventional polycrystalline superalloys. From the contents: - Macroscopic characteristics of strain at high temperatures - Experimental equipment and technique of in situ X-ray investigations - Experimental data and structural parameters in deformed metals - Subboundaries as dislocation sources and obstacles - The physical mechanism of creep and the quantitative structural model - Simulation of the parameters evolution - System of differential equations - High-temperature deformation of industrial superalloys - Single crystals of superalloys - Effect of composition, orientation and temperature on properties - Creep of some refractory metals For materials scientists, solid state physicists, solid state chemists, researchers and practitioners from industry sectors including metallurgical, mechanical, chemical and structural engineers.
