نویسندگان: John V. Gooley; Mitchell Gooley; CCH Australia Limited, خلاصه: Separate legal personality was firmly enunciated by the House of Lords in Salomon v A Salomon & Co Ltd [1897] AC 22; [1895–9] All ER Rep 33. In that case, Aron Salomon had traded successfully on his own as a leather merchant and wholesale boot manufacturer for a number of years. At the time, the Companies Act 1862 (UK) required seven subscribers before a company could be formed. Aron Salomon was keen to have a company structure take over his business and, so as to satisfy the statutory requirement, Aron Salomon, his wife, and four sons and one daughter who were all adults each subscribed for one share in a proposed company to be called ‘Aron Salomon and Company Limited’. The company had a nominal capital of £40,000 divided into 40,000 shares of £1 each. Shortly after registration, the new company took over Aron Salomon’s business. The principal motive was ‘to extend the business and make provision for his family’: at 48. The price for the business was extravagant as it amounted to over £39,000 and was a sum which was described by Lord Macnaghten (at 49) as ‘a sum which represented the sanguine expectations of a fond owner rather than anything that can be called a businesslike or reasonable estimate of value’. The purchase money was paid in the following way: as money came in, sums amounting in all to £30,000 were paid to Aron Salomon and then immediately returned to the company in exchange for fully paid shares

Idiot's Guides: Options TradingTrading on Sentiment - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Logue, Ann خلاصه: Options are powerful tools for managing financial assets. They can be used to manage risk, generate income, and make money. They’re also complicated. Let’s get that upfront. As a result, too many investors shy away from options because they confuse “complication” with “risk.” Others are led astray by advisers who take advantage of the complication to recommend high- commission, low-return strategies. It’s unfortunate, but it happens. Because options are complicated, though, they are an ideal topic for a book like this. Here, I break down the terminology and function of options to help you understand how you can use them to manage risk and to make money. An option is a contract that gives you the right to buy or sell something at a predetermined price on a predetermined future date. You are not obligated to exercise the contract, so you won’t unless it is to your advantage to do so. Most options are not exercised. It sounds like a goofy thing, doesn’t it? It sounds like something that’s not quite real, not quite practical, and possibly sketchy, doesn’t it? Perhaps it sounds like something that’s used by finan- cial people just to confuse the rest of us. However, options have real value. Suppose you think about an option in another way: as insurance. Your car insurance policy gives you the right, but not the obligation, to file an accident claim up to the amount of value of the car while the policy is in force. You don’t have to file a claim, and it might not be worth your while to even file it if you do have a minor accident that will cost less to repair than to cover your deductible. And yet, that policy has real value to you even if it expires unused. An option is a form of insurance. It is written on the value of an underlying asset, such as a share of stock, a market index, or a foreign currency. Some people buy options to insure against an unfavorable price change.

Quantitative trading - algorithms, analytics, data, models, optimization - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Wong, Samuel Po Shing خلاصه: This chapter gives an overview and some historical background of quantita- tive trading, the title of this book. It begins with a historical review of the evolution of the trading infrastructure, from verbal communication and hand signaling in an exchange to electronic platforms, in Section 1.1. It then gives in Section 1.2 an introduction to quantitative trading strategies and in par- ticular, the time-scales associated with different classes of strategies. In this connection, we give in Section 1.3 a brief historical account of the paradigm shift from the “efficient market hypothesis” (EMH) to arbitrage opportuni- ties via quantitative trading. In Section 1.4, we describe “quant funds” that use these quantitative trading strategies, and also the closely related mutual funds and hedge funds. An overview of the algorithms, analytics, data, models, and optimization methods — the subtitle of this book — used in quantita- tive trading is given in Section 1.5. Section 1.6 discusses the interdisciplinary background of the book and the anticipated diversity of its target audience. It also provides suggestions on how the book can be used by different groups of readers. Supplements and problems are given in Section 1.7.

Small Powers and Trading Security : Contexts, Motives and Outcomes - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Michael Intal Magcamit (auth.) خلاصه: This book examines why and how small powers link their security interests and trade agendas, and how security threats influence the facilitation and outcome of their trade activities. In doing so, it analyses the increasingly complex connections between trade and security, demonstrating how these linkages affect the overall security of four small but important states in East Asia. Focusing on the role of high levels of internal and external insecurities, marginal geo-economic size and peripheral geopolitical position, and multidimensional and multidirectional security contexts and threats, the author concludes that for every security enhancement that a linkage creates a consequent security risk is generated. In other words, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines are effectively trading their security. This innovative book will appeal to political scientists, economists, and security and trade experts.

Chart Patterns: After the Buy - Original PDF
Chart Patterns: After the Buy - Original PDF
نویسندگان: Thomas N. Bulkowski خلاصه: Take chart patterns beyond buy triggers to increase profits and make better trades Chart Patterns: After the Buy goes beyond simple chart pattern identification to show what comes next. Author and stock trader Thomas Bulkowski is one of the industry's most respected authorities in technical analysis; for this book, he examined over 43,000 chart patterns to discover what happens after you buy the stock. His findings are detailed here, to help you select better buy signals, avoid disaster, and make more money. Bulkowski analyzed thousands of trades to identify common paths a stock takes after the breakout from a chart pattern. By combining those paths, he discovered the typical routes a stock takes, which he calls configurations. Match your chart to one of those configurations and you will know, before you buy, how your trade will likely perform. Now you can avoid potentially disastrous trades to focus on the big winners. Each chapter illustrates the behavior of a specific pattern. Identification guidelines help even beginners recognize common patterns, and expert analysis sheds light on the period of the stock's behavior that actually affects your investment. You'll discover ideal buy and sell setups, how to set price targets, and more, with almost 370 charts and illustrations to guide you each step of the way. Coverage includes the most common and popular patterns, but also the lesser-known ones like bad earnings surprises, price mirrors, price mountains, and straight-line runs. Whether you're new to chart patterns or an experienced professional, this book provides the insight you need to select better trades. Identify chart patterns Select better buy signals Predict future behavior Learn the best stop locations Knowing the pattern is one thing, but knowing how often a stop will trigger and how often you can expect a stock to reach its target price is another matter entirely—and it impacts your trade performance immensely. Chart Patterns: After the Buy is the essential reference guide to using chart patterns effectively throughout the entire life of the trade.
