نویسندگان: Duane Chapman خلاصه: Dad, pull over. He’s stopping at a taco stand.” AndrewLuster, fugitive and convicted rapist, stood eating a taco. He had noidea I was on his ass. He turned to cross the street without a care inthe world. That was the first time I saw Luster with my own two eyes. Untilthat moment, he was a figment of my imagination. He was a photo,a sketch. And now he was alive—a living, breathing target. I saw hisshoulders, his head, and his eyes. As I rose above the steering wheel,I could see what I had been eating, breathing, and looking for in mydreams.I had Luster’s picture taped up in my bathroom so I could seehim at night before I went to bed and in the morning when I awoke.I kept a photo of him in my car. His Wanted poster was plasteredall over my office. My wife, Beth, taped up words of encouragement next to Luster’sface—phrases like “I will lead, not follow. I will create, not destroy. Iwill believe, not doubt. I will set new standards. I am the voice. I ama leader. I am going to proceed. I will succeed.” Every day I studiedLuster’s features as I filled my head with positive thoughts.I recognized every inch of Luster. I knew his walk from footage Ihad studied, just as I knew his voice on the phone.“Oh, my God. It’s him.” I can never explain why I said that outloud. So many people had doubted my ability to catch this bum.2 Yo u Ca n R u n , b u t Yo u Ca n ’ t H i d e“Dog can’t catch him.”“Dog’s a liar.”“Dog’s a felon.”I heard all of those doubting voices in my head as I stood onthe street staring at my prey. And then one voice came through loudand clear. It was the voice of my father. He said, “Now is the time. This is it.” I don’t know why I was thinking about my dad. He neverunderstood why I do what I do. But now, in this moment, I think hewould have approved. There are times when you just know in your heart that youractions are the right thing to do and you can’t imagine that therewould be anyone who would object. And then it turns out to yourgreat surprise that someone says it’s wrong. But you’re glad you didit anyway because you know it was the right thing to do. You do itto protect others who might be at risk. My dad would have calledthat a question of morality.“Get him!” Every voice in my head was shouting. “Get him!”The entire time I searched for Andrew Luster, Eminem’s song“Lose Yourself” was like my theme. That song came on the radio as I was about to pounce on Luster.I was frozen, stuck in the moment. Fear and pure exhilarationflowed through my veins. The guys were looking at me, waiting to see what I would do next. This was the Super Bowl of bounties. It was my Indy 500, myturn at the Grand Ole Opry. I had worked so hard to reach this mo-ment. I wanted to enjoy every second, every beat.Luster looked around, as if to make sure the coast was clear, butdidn’t move. In that moment, I realized what the term “bountyhunter” really meant. It wasn’t about the six thousand other arrestsI had made throughout my career. It was about right now. I thoughtabout Big Lou throwing his cuffs at my feet that day I saved Bigfootback in Huntsville. “Cuff him, bounty hunter.” This was it.“I’m going first. Tim, you come right behind me. Leland, when Iattack, you go.” I looked over at Filiberto to get his signal that itwas a “go.”

نویسندگان: Kenneth C. Davis خلاصه: When I was in the sixth grade, a building was going upacross the street from my school. Like most ten- or eleven-year-old boys, I preferred watching bulldozers in actionand concrete being poured to whatever was being writtenon the blackboard. I spent a lot of sixth grade gazing out the window.I don’t think I learned anything that year. The redbrick structure I watched rising with such absorbed fascination was a church. Unlike the soaring Gothic cathedrals of Europeor the formidable fortress-like stone church my family attended, thiswas not a typical church. It was being built in the shape of a mightyboat. Presumably, it was Noah’s ark. Most of us have a mental pictureof Noah’s ark and we all think it looks like a cute tugboat with alittle house on top.Except that Noah’s ark didn’t look anything like that. You canlook it up yourself. Right there in Genesis, you’ll find God’s LittleInstruction Book, a set of divine plans for building an ark. Unfortunately, like most directions that come with bicycles or appliances, these are a little sketchy, providing little more than the rough dimensions of 300 by 50 by 30 cubits (or roughly 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high). God told Noah to add a roof

Imádtam a rádiókat.

نویسندگان: Lynn Davis خلاصه: Are you looking forward to giving evidence? What do you have concerns about? Do you know how to prepare written evidence that will be taken seriously in court? "See You in Court" is an accessible guide for social workers on being a witness in care proceedings. With little training and few resources available, social workers can find preparing for court a daunting part of their role. "See You in Court" answers questions frequently asked by social workers in real cases, and gives information on court structures, basic rules of evidence, the roles of those involved in the proceedings, and court etiquette. The process of giving evidence is discussed, including how to deal with cross-examination. Case studies support the material, as well as multiple-choice questions and a checklist for witnesses. This practical book is essential reading for social workers, particularly those working with children and families.

نویسندگان: Julia Quinn خلاصه: ―Annabel!‖Annabel snapped to attention. Louisa was addressing her with uncommon urgency, and she‘d dowell to listen.―Annabel, this is important,‖ Louisa said.Annabel nodded, and an unfamiliar feeling washed over her—maybe of gratitude, certainly oflove. She‘d only just got to know her cousin, but already there was a deep bond of affection, andshe knew that Louisa would do everything in her power to keep Annabel from making anunhappy alliance.Unfortunately, Louisa‘s power was, in this capacity, limited. And she did not—no, she couldnot—understand the pressures of being the eldest daughter of an impoverished family.―Listen to me,‖ Louisa implored. ―Lord Newbury‘s son died, oh, I think it must be a bit over ayear ago. And he started looking for a wife before his son was cold in his grave.‖―Shouldn‘t he have found one by now, then?‖Louisa shook her head. ―He almost married Mariel Willingham.‖―Who?‖ Annabel blinked, trying to place the name.―Exactly. You‘ve never heard of her. She died.‖Annabel felt her eyebrows rise. It was really a rather emotionless delivery of such tragic news.―Two days before the wedding she took a chill.‖―She died in only two days?‖ Annabel asked. It was a morbid question, but, well, she had toknow.―No. Lord Newbury insisted upon delaying the ceremony. He said it was for her welfare, thatshe was too ill to stand up in church, but everyone knew that he really just wanted to make sureshe was healthy enough to bear him a son.‖―And then?‖―Well, and then she did die. She lingered for about a fortnight. It was really very sad. She wasalways very kind to me.‖ Louisa gave her head a little shake, then continued. ―It was a near missfor Lord Newbury. If he‘d married her, he would have had to go into mourning. As it was, hehad already tried to wed scandalously soon after his son‘s death. If Miss Willingham hadn‘t diedbefore the wedding, he‘d have had another year of black.‖―How long did he wait before looking for someone else?‖ Annabel asked, dreading the answer.―Not more than two weeks. Honestly, I don‘t think he would have waited that long if he thoughthe could have got away with it.‖ Louisa looked about, her eyes falling on Annabel‘s sherry. ―Ineed some tea,‖ she said.

نویسندگان: Mims Cushing, Norman Latov خلاصه: When I was in school, back in the 1950s, from third grade throughtwelfth, everyone was required to take athletics, Monday throughFriday. How I loved getting out of sports. Mother wouldn’t give me a“Sports Excuse” very often, so I had to run in field hockey, lacrosse, basket-ball. In winter, we had the dreaded running races in the gym. But I did like towalk. My Mom and I went into New York City from Larchmont on weekendsand traipsed up and down Madison or Fifth Avenues at a breakneck pace. Ididn’t have neuropathy. Yet.Feet to Brain: Are You There? When we moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in 1991, I enjoyed walking toLakeside, a community near mine; however, in 1996, people passed me byand soon were far ahead. My 30-minute walk took 40 minutes. Friendswanted me to go faster, but my feet didn’t like the idea. My legs were losingstrength, a common problem with neuropathy. My feet were tingling, burn-ing, and numb—especially at night. I felt stabbing, shooting pains. Ding.Ding. Ding. Bells and whistles should have sounded an alarm, but they did-n’t. In the 1990s, few people knew about peripheral neuropathy, myselfincluded. A huge number still haven’t a clue about it, even though 20 millionpeople in the United States have peripheral neuropathy. And the numbersare growing. In 1996, I went to an internist because the symptoms made me crabby. Shesaid, “You may have peripheral neuropathy. See a neurologist.” Her quick diag-nosis was unusual. Not so long ago, some patients weren’t diagnosed for along time. Thirty-four years is the longest I’ve heard of.
